Title: Jimmy Choo, Selfridges
Client: dpa lighting design

dpa lighting design was appointed by Jimmy Choo to address lighting at their ’shop-in-shop’ display at the Selfridges Shoe Emporium, selecting Applelec’s LED Light Sheet and KKDC’s TiMi 504 LED strips for the new concept.

A focus on improving light quality consistent with brand and consumer expectations for a luxury retail environment was a primary project objective.

With the existing boutique layout and shelving remaining unchanged, dpa provided a retrofit solution to deliver a new perspective on the illumination of the space with minimal waste. A focus on improving light quality consistent with brand and consumer expectations for a luxury retail environment was a primary project objective and this was met with the exclusive specification of highly energy efficient products.

Gary Campbell of dpa lighting design explains: ‘The overall lighting was perceived to be poor and not doing the brand or the product justice in addition to being very inefficient. The ambient lighting quality was flat and dull, the display lighting inadequate in terms of quality, coverage, and display luminance levels.’

3000K LED Light Sheet was specified for the upper shelves to provide product illumination whilst lighting the walls above for feature effect. Fitting new lighting systems into the pre-existing shelves reduced the excessive waste of store renovation with no less compelling results. Eight LED Light Sheet panels were created for the installation in dimensions up to 2266mmx388mm and a combined power consumption of 400W.

Elsewhere, the shelving had previously been illuminated by low quality, integrated linear LED lighting which gave a green appearance to what was lit. Following testing, dpa specified KKDC’s TiMi 504 HCRI LED Strips in 2700K and 3200K and a CRI of 92. The combined strips achieved the optimum colour appearance of light for the product and finishes whilst drawing 12.24W/m.

This inspiring lighting scheme for Jimmy Choo has been created exclusively and uncompromisingly with energy efficient products to readdress the light of the boutique with transformative effect.
